Executive Pastor (1.0 FTE)

Announcement

First Baptist Church of Portland is seeking a full-time Executive Pastor to join our ministry team. The Executive Pastor is a key member of the staff team at First Baptist Church of Portland, who works closely with the Pastor to provide overall administrative leadership for the church family, with a view to helping the church to grow both numerically and spiritually, through various ministries. The primary purpose of the Executive Pastor is to assist the Pastor by leading ministries of administration, facilities, and other areas of specialized ministry, in seeking to accomplish the mission objectives of FBC. While the Executive Pastor should have a working knowledge of accounting, maintenance, and human resources, this position will supervise and coordinate the bookkeeping, HR, and building support staff who will be directly responsible for the work in these areas. The secondary role(s) in specialized ministry for this position will be determined based on the skills and passions of the Executive Pastor, but may include children’s ministry, youth ministry, young adult ministry, outreach ministry, small groups ministry, visitation ministry, and/or Spanish language ministry. Specific duties may change over time based on needs of the church and upon agreement between the Executive Pastor and the Pastor.

 

Time Commitment

  • Sundays: 8:00 am – 2:00 pm (6 hours)
  • Office Hours: Mondays – Thursdays 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm (16 hours)
  • Communication/Meetings/Events: Varies (18 hour average)

Total Weekly Commitment: 40 hours per week

Required Qualifications

  1. In addition to Administrative and Facilities Ministry, able to work in an area of specialized ministry up to .50 FTE, (depending on the needs of the church over time), such as children’s ministry, youth ministry, young adult ministry, outreach ministry, small groups ministry, visitation ministry, and/or Spanish language ministry.
  2. Commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, demonstrating maturity as a person and as a Christian in personal conduct and in relationship with others.
  3. Called of God for Christian ministry with a commitment and a capability of working within a pastoral team.
  4. Ability to sustain meaningful relationships, to give leadership in enlisting and organizing people in ministry, engendering lay ownership of program.
  5. Must pass a background check.
  6. Bachelor’s degree earned at an accredited institution of higher education.
  7. Graduate-level (Master’s) degree earned at an accredited institution of higher education in the fields of pastoral ministry, biblical studies, theology, and/or business administration (e.g. M.Div., Th.M., and/or MBA)
  8. Is currently enrolled in or has completed a program at an accredited seminary, university, or Bible college in pastoral ministry, biblical studies, etc.
  9. Ordination by an American Baptist Church in keeping with ABC/USA ordination standards, or ABC recognition of ordination, or commitment to pursue and complete ABC ordination within 2 years of hire.
  10. Agreement with FBC Covenant.
  11. Membership at FBC.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Has experience working or volunteering in a local church setting
  2. Has experience managing staff and volunteers in a local church setting.
  3. Has experience working in an urban ministry setting.
  4. High level of skill in project management and coordination between departments.

Pastor of Youth (.25 FTE)

Announcement

First Baptist Church of Portland is seeking a Pastor of Youth, a key member of the worship team at First Baptist Church (FBC), Portland, who works closely with the Pastor to provide ministry and care to teens and their families. The primary responsibility of the Pastor of Youth will be to provide leadership for the Youth Group ministry.

Time Commitment

  • Sundays: 11:00am – 2:30pm (3.5 hours)
  • Special events: Varies (2 hours average)
  • Prep time: Varies (2.5 hours average)

Sound Technician (.15 FTE – .25 FTE)

First Baptist Church of Portland is seeking a part-time Sound Technician to join our ministry team. The Sound Technician is a key member of the staff team at First Baptist Church, Portland, who works closely with the Pastor of Worship and the Lead Sound Technician to provide excellent sound quality for two weekly worship services (8:45 am and 11:00 am), as well as occasional outside events (concerts, weddings, etc.). This position is part of the “Tech Team,” a group of A/V professionals who take turns staffing Sunday services depending on availability and skill set of each member of the team.

Time Commitment

  • Sundays: 7:00am-1:00pm (6 hours)
  • Special Events: Varies (4 hours)
  • Total Weekly Commitment: 6 – 10 hours per week
  • Note: Special event hours will be scheduled in collaboration with the Worship/Music Coordinator and other related staff members.

Time Commitment

  • Sundays: 10:00am-12:00pm (2 hours)
  • Total Weekly Commitment: 2 hours

Events Coordinator (.125 FTE)

First Baptist Church of Portland is seeking a part-time Events Coordinator to join our ministry team.  The Events Coordinator is a key member of the staff team at First Baptist Church, Portland, who works closely with the Pastor, Administrative Office, and Facilities Office to obtain and serve outside non-profit organizations renting or leasing areas of FBC.  The Events Coordinator also serves as Wedding Coordinator in the event of such occasion happening on church premises.  Compensation for services as Wedding Coordinator is above and beyond the Event Coordinator’s regular salary, to be determined in accordance with the wedding contract negotiation process.

Time Commitment

  • Tuesdays: 1:00pm-4:00pm (3 hours)
  • Flex Time: Varies (2 hours)

Total Weekly Commitment:  5 hours
