Organist (.25 FTE)
The Organist is a key member of the staff team at First Baptist Church, Portland, who works closely with the Pastor of Worship Ministries to provide high-quality accompaniment to
Sunday Worship Services.
Our congregation reflects the cultural and socioeconomic diversity of Downtown Portland and the surrounding metropolitan area, and we are passionate about serving our
neighborhood and addressing the spiritual needs of our community. We also serve the spiritual needs of individuals who are only able to participate in our ministries online, many
of whom do not live in our geographical area. As such, First Baptist is uniquely poised to address exciting opportunities for mission that can have a significant positive impact on the
city of Portland and beyond.

Time Commitment
- Sunday Worship Services: 9:00am-12:00pm (3+ hours)
- Scheduled Choir Practice: As scheduled (3 hours)
- Practice & Meeting Time: Varies (3 hours)
- Special Events: Varies (2 hours per occurrence)
- Total Weekly Commitment: 10-12 hours per week

Vacation
- Paid vacation time starts at 2 weeks per calendar year. Please refer to the Personnel Policy Manual for further information.
- All paid and non-paid time off must be approved and scheduled with their Supervisor, or,
in the Supervisor’s absence, the Pastor or the Executive Committee.
Reporting Relationship
- This position reports to the Pastor of Worship/Worship Music Director.

Required Qualifications
- Commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, demonstrating maturity as a person
and as a Christian in personal conduct and in relationship with others. - Expert keyboard abilities, sight reading, able to adapt music for specific
circumstances. - Musical training and experience that adequately allows for fulfilling the demands of
the music ministry of a church with a history of musical excellence. - Skill levels sufficient to master a 40+ rank, 3-manual pipe organ.

- Creativity and flexibility that enables sacred expressions in a variety of musical styles.
Specific Job Duties
- Play organ and/or piano for Sunday Worship Services. (Includes service music, hymns,
and choir accompaniment). Also accompany vocal or instrumental solos or small
groups – at the discretion of the Pastor of Worship Ministries. - Play for Special Services and Musical Presentations of the church. (Christmas Eve;
Maundy Thursday; Choir Concerts; community and denominational services, etc.). - Attend all Huddle/Stand Up Meetings before Services & Events. Meet weekly with
Worship and/or Pastoral Staff regarding upcoming services and events. Be willing to
give input, make suggestions to Pastor of Worship Ministries and Worship Team
regarding music in worship. - Accompany the Sanctuary Choir at rehearsals (As scheduled).
- Present and encourage a broad range of quality Christian music: Historic; traditional;
classic; and contemporary; following the musical style guidelines established by the
Worship Music Director for each worship service. - Approach music in worship and an enhancement to worship, not as a performance.
- When requested by the Pastor of Worship Ministries, rehearse all or specific sections
of the choir at rehearsals. - Although not required, may opt to attend sessions of the Worship Team, interacting
as a non-voting member. - When not to be in attendance, schedule guest organists for rehearsals and services.

Music Ministry Intern
First Baptist Church Portland is a historic Baptist church located in downtown Portland, Oregon and
is part of the American Baptist Church. This internship is for the purpose of training and equipping
future musical worship leaders, giving them real-life experience in multiple contexts. Interns will
have the opportunity to lead at any of our locations and events, as well as in our sub church
ministries. Interns will work alongside the Worship Pastor and/or the Executive Pastor to schedule,
plan, and lead the music in our Sunday gatherings and other church events.
The right person for this internship is someone who:
- Desires to lead music in the local church
- Is willing to serve weekly in the local church
- Is proficient at their instrument and/or vocals
- Is willing to learn the basics of leading a band, leading a congregation musically,
and scheduling a team - Is available on Sunday mornings, scheduled church events and occasionally on
other afternoons/evenings.
Internships can vary between 6 months to a year.

Nursery Coordinator (.10 – .15 FTE)
First Baptist Church of Portland is seeking a part-time Nursery Coordinator to join our ministry team. The Nursery Coordinator is a key member of the staff team at First Baptist Church, Portland, who works closely with the Pastor of Children and volunteers to provide excellent childcare in the age 0 – 2 Nursery for two weekly worship services (8:45 am and 11:00 am), as well as occasional FBC events.
Time Commitment
- Sundays: 8:30am-12:30pm (4 hours)
- Special Events: Varies (2 hours generally)
Total Weekly Commitment: 4-6 hours per week
