Letters Received for our Anniversary
Letter from John, Debbie, Micah and Jesse Coats, our missionaries to Cambodia
Received Thursday, December 30, 2004
So many thanks for all your loving care for us. To those who write us regularly, we are especially grateful. And to the Cambodian church, we again thank you for the gift of the special digital camera which we are learning to use more often now (we’re a little slow in technology skills). This has been a real blessing, among many which you have sent our way. . . . We wish you God’s very best for this year of your 150th anniversary. . . . we pray that this 150th year will be a landmark year where FBC becomes known in a special way in the community as a church that lives for Christ and lifts him up for all to know and praise!
Letter from Judith Sutterlin, our missionary to China
Received Tuesday, December 28, 2004
Wow! A 150th Anniversary! Just that length of time bears witness to the rich ministry and to the many lives that have been touched with God’s love in Christ and the many lives that have gone on to share that live in wider and wider circles around the world. . . . .what a thrill it was for me to share together with all of you when I was on my last home assignment in the 2000-2001 school year. I appreciated the opportunity to let you know some of the exciting ministries we as American Baptists are involved in here in China along with our Chinese brothers and sisters, a ministry of which you are a vital part.
Letter from Rev. George Nye, retired pastor and former associate pastor
Written December 13, 2004
The first time I ever attended FBC, was to hear a concert by the “Ink Spots” in the Chapel Beautiful. As the Rose Festival Court picture indicates, Dr. Walker had a flare for the dramatic; so he invited them. I was much impressed with the singing, but I thought that we must be in the sanctuary, and I wasn’t much impressed with having to sit on those old, straight-backed chairs. I was happily surprised when we went into the sanctuary on Sunday morning, a room I didn’t know was there, when we attended the concert on the previous night.

Thank you for the information you sent regarding FBC’s 150th Anniversary. I have very fond memories of my time serving on the Pastoral team in Portland. . . . Sonia and I would love to visit FBC and be a part of your celebration. What is looking possible now might be the events of May 7 and 8 or the special social on July 12.
